Shirin Akter gained her first international experience in 2013 at the Asian Championships in Pune , where she was eliminated in the 100-meter run with 12.73 seconds in the lead. The following year she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time, but was also eliminated there with 12.87 s and 26.41 s over 100 and 200 meters in the first round, as well as at the 2015 Asian Championships in Wuhan , where it ran for 12.99 s and 26.78 s. In 2016, she finished sixth over 100 meters at the South Asian Games in Guwahati in 12.43 seconds and won the bronze medal behind the teams from Sri Lanka and India in the Bangladeshi 4 x 100 meter relay in 47.44 seconds. Thanks to a wildcard, she was then allowed to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro over 100 meters , where she was eliminated in the pre-qualifying round with 12.99 seconds . In 2018 she again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where she retired over 100 meters with 12.72 s in the first round and in the 200-meter run with 26.17 s. In 2019 she was eliminated at the Asian Championships in Doha with 12.72 s over 100 meters in the preliminary round and also at the Summer Universiade in Naples she was eliminated over 100 and 200 meters with 12.45 s and 25.45 s in the preliminary round. At the beginning of December she finished fifth over 100 meters in 12.32 s at the South Asian Games in Kathmandu and was seventh over 200 meters in 25.59 s. In addition, she came fourth with the relay in 47.20 s.
In 2015 and 2019, Akter became the Bangladeshi champion in the 100 and 200 meters.
