Kehlen is a district of the municipality of Meckenbeuren in the Lake Constance district of Baden-Württemberg in Germany .
history
Kehlen is first mentioned around 817 as "Kelinga". A church in Kehlen is mentioned for the first time in 1150. At that time the village was called Chelun . Along with Brochenzell and Ailingen, Kehlen is one of the oldest settlements in this area. Until 1803 Kehlen belonged to the Kreuzlingischen rule Hirschlatt, then came with this to Hohenzollern-Hechingen and finally in 1813 to the Kingdom of Württemberg. The Hirschlatt community, formed in the same year, comprised the old domain. In 1937, parts of the municipality of Meckenbeuren and the dissolved municipality of Hirschlatt became the municipality of Kehlen. On May 1, 1972, Kehlen was incorporated into Meckenbeuren after 35 years of independence.
place
Kehlen has always been Roman Catholic. A church in Chelun is mentioned as early as 1150 .
The Schussen flows through the village . On the other side of the river are the village community center, festival hall and school.
Attractions
The Church of St. Verena was built in 1967/68. Next to the church of St. Verena is the rectory, the Catholic parish hall and the kindergarten.
structure
Kehlen is divided into 15 sub-locations: Kehlen, Reute, Buch, Sibratshaus, Sassen, Schürten, Gerbertshaus, Gunzenhaus, Lochbrücke, Sammletshofen, Holzreute, Hechelfurt (domain).
politics
After the incorporation in 1972, a local constitution was issued and a local council was founded, which met in the former town hall, the village community center. For the 2014 local elections, the local council decided to dissolve it on the grounds that after four decades the citizens of Kehlen no longer needed their own mouthpiece. The last mayor was Franz Assfalg ( CDU ) until 2014 .
coat of arms
The coat of arms symbolizes the connection between the two parts of the municipality on the left and right of the Schussen. The blazon of the coat of arms reads: In silver (white) over a blue shield base a bricked red bridge with a whole arch in the middle and half an arch on each side.
The coat of arms has not been officially used since the municipality was dissolved in 1972, but is unofficially used as the local coat of arms.
