Sibyllina Biscossi

Sibyllina Biscossi , also Sibillina Biscossi or Sibylle Biscossi (* 1287 in Pavia ; † March 19, 1367 ibid) was an Italian terciar of the Order of Preachers . She lived as a recluse from 1302 until her death in 1367 . In the Roman Catholic Church , Sibyllina Biscotti, who had a reputation for holiness during her lifetime, is venerated as a blessed .

Life

Orphaned at an early age , Sibyllina had to earn her living as a maid . At the age of 12 she began to go blind and joined the Third Order of the Dominicans . In 1302 she took up a life as a recluse. Her cell was right next to the monastery church in Pavia. Here she lived a life of repentance for sixty years . Many believers and high-ranking personalities sought advice from her. After her death, she was buried in the Dominican church in Pavia. This place soon developed into a place of pilgrimage where miraculous healings are said to have taken place.

Worship and representation

Pope Pius IX said Sibyllina Biscotti in 1854 of blessed. She is considered the patron saint of maids. In Christian iconography she is depicted in the habit of a Dominican priest; her attribute is the baby Jesus .
