Sidi Bou Othmane ( Arabic سيدي بوعثمان, Central Atlas Tamazight ⵙⵉⴷⵉ ⴱⵓ ⵄⵜⵎⴰⵏ ) is a small town and about 10,000 inhabitants rural municipality (commune rurale) in the province Rehamna in the region Marrakech-Safi in southern Morocco .
Location and climate
The small town of Sidi Bou Othmane is located at an altitude of approx. 460 m about 34 km (driving distance) north of Marrakech and 38 km south of the provincial capital Ben Guerir . The climate is temperate to warm; the rather sparse rain (approx. 390 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

The inhabitants of the municipality and the city are predominantly of Berber descent; most of them only immigrated from the villages of the Atlas Mountains at the turn of the millennium . Different Berber dialects and Moroccan Arabic are spoken . Moroccan Arabic is mostly spoken among each other.
economy
The surrounding area is traditionally characterized by agriculture, with cattle breeding formerly operated by (semi) nomads also playing an important role. The inhabitants of the city live mainly from retail trade and handicrafts; there are also several public and private educational institutions.
history
Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was probably only a small market town that only slowly developed into a small town. In 1912 a battle between the French and the troops of the counter-sultan Ahmed al-Hiba took place near the place , which the latter lost.
Attractions
There are no historically or culturally significant sights in the largely new city.
