Sidney Harmon

Sidney Harmon (born April 30, 1907 in Poughkeepsie , Dutchess County , New York , † February 29, 1988 in Rancho Mirage , California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer who was nominated once for the Oscar for best original story.

Life

Harmon was nominated for his first submission for an Academy Award for Best Original Story at the 1943 Academy Awards for the George Stevens- directed comedy Witness to the Prosecution (The Talk of the Town, 1942), starring Cary Grant , Jean Arthur and Ronald Colman in the leading roles.

In the following years up to 1961 he wrote the scripts and templates for six films and between 1953 and 1965 he was involved as a producer with his film production company Security Pictures in the production of nine films, such as 1955, directed by Joseph H. Lewis resulting gangster film Secret Ring 99 (The Big Combo) with Cornel Wilde , Richard Conte and Brian Donlevy .

In 1959, Harmon was one of the co-founders of the theater group at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), along with John Houseman and Robert Ryan .
