They called her little mother is a German-American-Yugoslav film drama by Radley Metzger with Christiane Krüger as the ambitious and unscrupulous political climber and Siegfried Rauch as her dictatorial presidential husband in the leading roles.

action

Marina Pinares was born in extreme poverty and slept her way up as a party girl and mistress. Now she has got where she always wanted to: to the top of power. Her husband is the president of an unspecified, semi-dictatorial, Latin American state, and she also governs - because the people love Marina. She has not forgotten her origins and as a “little mother” takes care of the poorest of the poor, the shirtless, the hungry and the sick. But behind the facade of mercy, of humanitarian commitment, there is by no means pure selflessness. There is the completely different Marina Pinares: the power-obsessed and unscrupulous woman who once sold herself in order to achieve her current position and does not shrink from murder in order to one day follow her husband in the presidential chair.

One day, fate hits her hard: Marina becomes seriously ill with cancer and soon doesn't have long to live. They are dropped, they are actually hidden from the public, and their obsession with power is soon worthless. Marina wants to stay in the people's minds forever as the “little mother” and is even now playing a morally highly questionable game to be canonized by the Church after her death. She plans to stage her departure as the perfect show in front of the public, but she has done her math without the brutal military, who have a completely different plan and spin a final intrigue against them.

Production notes

They called her little mother. It was filmed in Yugoslavia in 1972 and premiered in the USA on January 5, 1973. In Germany, the strip apparently only premiered when it was broadcast on Tele 5 on February 25, 1990. The flick was later re-released under the lurid title Marina - The brutal way of a whore .

Branko Lustig ( Schindler's List ) took over the production management.

useful information

The film is vaguely oriented towards the life and fate of Eva Perón , the former wife of the Argentine President and dictator Juan Perón .

criticism

The lexicon of international films criticized the fact that the speculative film , instead of denouncing political corruption, would only focus on sex and violence.
