Athletic career

From 1964 to 1976 Siegfried Reimer was represented in the upper-class football of the GDR in eleven seasons. He was characterized by being down-to-earth, because within thirteen years he was only playing at TSG Wismar and Chemie Böhlen in addition to Chemie Leipzig . With the exception of his unsuccessful interlude in Leipzig, Reimer was always a regular in the GDR league and was continuously in the position of left winger. He was also present as a goal scorer in every season and scored 47 goals in his 231 GDR league games.

In 1964 he made his debut in the GDR league at TSG Wismar, having previously won the championship in the Rostock district league . Reimer played three GDR league seasons for TSG, missing only six times in 90 league games.

For the 1967/68 season Reimer moved to the Oberliga for Chemie Leipzig. His coach Heinz Frenzel used Reimer for the first time on the second league matchday as before on the left attacking side. With breaks in between, Reimer played in another six league matches until the winter break, always in his usual position. On the 7th matchday he scored his only league goal in a 3-0 win over Motor Zwickau . After the winter break, he was only used with the first team in the round of 16 of the GDR soccer cup on March 26, 1968. Reimer spent the rest of the second half of the season in the reserve team. This was dissolved in 1968 and classified as Chemistry II in the district league. Reimer played there until the end of the 1968/69 season.

For the 1969/70 season Reimer joined the GDR league club Chemie Böhlen. He played seven seasons as a regular on the left wing and was used 147 times in the 168 league games. With 29 goals, he was a shooter every season. 1973/74 Reimer played all 22 league games and won the season with the team. In the eight promotion games to the league, in which Böhlen did not make promotion, Reimer was also called up in all matches. The last game of the GDR league season 1975/76 was also Reimer's last game in higher-class football. In a 3-0 away win against Motor Bautzen , the 34-year-old also scored his last league goal.
