Siegfried Straub

Siegfried Straub (born September 4, 1894 in Berlichingen ; † October 4, 1915 in the Senuc field hospital, France) was a German poet.

Life

Straub grew up in Ravensburg in Upper Swabia and attended grammar school there. In Tübingen he first studied Catholic theology, then law.

In the First World War he was drafted into the army and served on the Western Front . On the morning of October 4th he received from Massiges , Dept. Marne , suffered a severe head injury from a shrapnel bullet, which he died the same evening in the Senuc field hospital.

Straub's poetic talent showed itself early on. Some poems were included in a collection of war songs edited by Carl Sonnenschein and published by the Student Social Work Office.

A collection of his poems was published posthumously in 1916. In addition to religious poems and prayers, there are war poems and the dramatic poem “Faithful Sisters”, in which the national personifications Germania and Austria appear.
