Bever ( French Biévène ) is a Belgian municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant . It is one of the Dutch- speaking communities with French facilities .

history

Bever was first mentioned in a document from the Gembloux Abbey in 946 . From the 11th to the 19th century, Bever belonged to the county of Hainaut , which became part of the province of Hainaut in 1830 after Belgium became independent .

In 1963 Bever became part of the province of Brabant (since 1995 Flemish Brabant).

The name of the community is probably of Celtic origin ( beven = border; beber = beaver ).
