Siegfried Unterberger

Siegfried Unterberger (born September 2, 1893 in Salzburg ; † April 18, 1979 ) was an Austrian doctor for ear, nose and throat medicine .

Life

Unterberger began studying medicine at the University of Graz in 1913 , but interrupted it for military service in the First World War . After returning from Russian captivity, he continued his studies in 1918. In 1921 he completed his studies and received his doctorate . After working as a general practitioner, he began further training in ear, nose and throat medicine with Johannes Zange . In 1931 he completed his habilitation and followed Zange to the University of Jena . In 1939 Unterberger worked temporarily at the University of Münster before he was appointed to Vienna in the same year as the successor to Heinrich Neumann von Héthárs , who was dismissed as part of the "annexation" of Austria to the German Reich , where he was appointed director of Vienna University -Throat, nose and throat clinic. In 1945 he was arrested, and Emil Schlander was his successor in Vienna . Unterberger worked in the hospital in Klagenfurt until 1946 , then at the ENT department of the Klagenfurt Regional Hospital, of which he became head in 1948. In 1961 he retired.

Siegfried Unterberger described the Unterberger stepping attempt and the bitempolar stirrup cut according to Unterberger, an approach for frontobasal fractures.
