Sieglinde Dick (Sieglinde Franzke) (born June 19, 1943 in Potsdam ; † March 10, 2003 in Münchehofe ) was the GDR's first female jockey , endurance rider and writer in 1960 .

Live and act

Sieglinde Dick's father, a simple worker, died in 1945 when she was just two years old, during World War II . Her mother took care of the common maintenance as a domestic help. In addition to her favorite activity, reading, Sieglinde Dick discovered her passion for horses and riding at an early age. The barely eleven-year-old became a member of the GST equestrian community, a section of the pre-military mass organization Society for Sport and Technology for the training of top athletes, as well as a member of the reading committee of her library, where she was particularly impressed by a reading by the children's book author Hanns Krause , who had chosen a horse story . Years later, she kept in touch with Krause by letter. After finishing school, she worked as a zoo keeper at Tierpark Berlin for a year .

Her actual career aspiration to be a jockey was unusual for a young woman in the late 1950s. Nevertheless, from 1960 to 1963 she completed a training as a racing rider at the Berlin-Hoppegarten racecourse . As the first female professional jockey in the GDR, she wrote sports history. Until 1972 she started for various Hoppegarten racing stables and worked as a riding instructor at the same time.

After the end of her racing career, she wrote several (youth) books on the subject of female jockeys. Motifs of the autobiographical novel Gerlinde der Jockei were filmed by GDR television under the title Jockei Monika . Designs of the book saddle in the luggage , created in 1981 the DEFA film course or victory? directed by Claus Dobberke.

Sieglinde Dick remained committed to riding. As an endurance rider, she took third place at the German championships in 1998 and 1999 and second place in 2001. At the age of 55, she took part in the world championships in endurance riding in Dubai on her trotter gelding “Flyer” . Since the fall of the Berlin Wall , she has run her own riding stables in Münchehofe in Brandenburg .

Sieglinde Dick died of cancer.
