The sluice and pumping station Knock is a combined sluice and pumping station on the Knock in the Emden district of Wybelsum . It drains an area of around 35,000 hectares into the Ems via the Knockster Tief .
function
The I. Drainage Association Emden is responsible for the north-west of East Friesland , one third of which is below sea level (NHN). Due to these geographical conditions, water levels of 1.40 m above sea level in the winter months and 1.27 m above sea level in the summer months must be maintained. For this purpose, the largest sewer and pumping station in Europe at the time was built in 1968/69 with a 42-hectare grinding bunk .
Half of the rainwater at the Knock can be drained off via two sluices, each with a clearance of 11.5 m. Four centrifugal pumps with a delivery rate of 15,000 liters per second are available for the rest of the water . The reorganization of the main receiving water with a length of 43 kilometers and the alignment of a 35,000 hectare catchment area to the sluice and pumping station Knock was completed in 2002.
