Siemens Inspiro of the Warsaw Metro

The brand name Inspiro describes a vehicle concept from Siemens for metro vehicles , which was presented for the first time at the InnoTrans 2010 trade fair . The Inspiro platform offers a complete vehicle from the car body to the electrical system and interior fittings. The first vehicles went into operation on December 19, 2012 at the Warsaw Metro .

General technique

The car bodies are made of lightweight aluminum. Thanks to the single car concept, between two and eight powered cars can be coupled in a train, with the basic version being designed as a six-part single car train. The motorization can be adapted to the wishes of the customer. The seating can be arranged horizontally, lengthways or mixed, and you can choose between pivoting and sliding doors for the exterior doors. The lack of switch cabinets and underseat devices in the vehicle interior leave additional design and expansion options open.

According to its own information, the manufacturer attached great importance to environmental friendliness when designing the vehicle. The vehicle is made of lightweight aluminum. 97.5 percent of the materials used should be recyclable.

The Inspiro can optionally also be ordered for driverless operation. In addition to the various operating modes (manual / automatic driving), the Inspiro can be adapted to various metro systems - both technically and in terms of design. The design in the version presented by Siemens has so far only been adopted by Metro Warsaw and Metro Sofia .

Orders

Munich subway

MVG series C2

At the beginning of 2010, the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft ordered 21 new Inspiro vehicles. Although these trains, referred to as the C2 series, represent a further development of the MVG C1 series from a purely visual point of view, technically they can be assigned to the Inspiro series. In addition to the firm order, two options of 23 vehicles each were agreed, which were / are to be redeemed by 2016 and 2020 respectively.

Warsaw Metro

Interior

The first orderer for a complete Inspiro vehicle is the Warsaw Metro , which ordered 35 six-car vehicles from Siemens Mobility at the beginning of 2011 . Among other things, the Inspiro serves Line 2 here. The special features of these vehicles include sliding steps to bridge the distance between the train and the platform for people with reduced mobility at the first doors of the end cars and a passenger information system adapted to the Warsaw Metro . The total value of the order is around 272 million euros. The first ten trains are manufactured in the Siemens factory in Vienna , the final test in the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center . The other vehicles will be assembled at the partner company Newag in Nowy Sącz, Poland . The first operations are scheduled for the end of 2012.

The Inspiro for the Warsaw Metro is designed for a top speed of 90 km / h with a mains voltage of 750  volts on the third rail. Here it drives on standard gauge with a total vehicle length over coupling of 117.8 meters. Further dimensions are the vehicle width of 2.74 meters, the floor height above the top of the rails of 1.13 meters and the roof height of 3.65 meters. The vehicle has 234 seats .

The total capacity is arithmetically 1502 people, based on seven people per square meter. The unladen weight of a train is 165 tons, and when fully occupied it is 267 tons. The max. Axle load is specified as 12.6 tons.

Metro Kuala Lumpur

Inspiro in Kuala Lumpur

In October 2012, the SSSC consortium (Siemens Malaysia, Siemens AG and SMH Rail) was awarded the contract for 58 new driverless metro trains with four cars for the Klang Valley MRT project. The order also included the construction of two depots for the trains. The Inspiro trains started operating on a newly built line in Kuala Lumpur at the end of 2016 .

Sofia Metro

In September 2015, Metro Sofia ordered 20 three-part Inspiro metro trains from a consortium of Siemens Transportation and the Polish vehicle manufacturer Newag , which are to be delivered from 2019. There is an option for 10 more three-part trains. The length of the trains is 60 meters and the width is 2.65 m. The trains will each have 4 double doors with a width of 1.4 meters per car.

The trains are intended for use on Line 3.

Bangkok Metro / Skytrain

Inspiro of the Bangkok Skytrain

In May 2016, Siemens and the Turkish vehicle manufacturer Bozankaya received the order to supply 22 four-car trains for the two Skytrain lines in Bangkok . The trains will be built in Ankara near Bozankaya. Siemens' part of the supply includes the bogies, traction and braking systems. The first trains went into operation in 2018.

In September 2017, Siemens received another order from Bangkok to supply metro trains. For the extension of the Blue Line , 35 three-part metros will be delivered, which are supposed to resemble the trains that were delivered by Siemens Vienna in the 2000s. In contrast to the order from 2016, the trains will be manufactured in Vienna-Simmering .

London Underground: Piccadilly Line

In November 2018, Siemens received an order worth 1.7 billion euros from London Underground to supply 94 railcars by 2023. Instead of the previous 24, 27 trains will run on the line at an increased rate from 2026. The production location is still unclear.
