The Siemens S65 is a GSM - mobile telephone of the former mobile phone manufacturer Siemens Mobile , which in the third quarter of 2004 came on the market. The S65 cost 479 euros when it was launched , making it one of the manufacturer's luxury class mobile phones. It replaced the previous model S55 . Siemens stopped producing cell phones at the end of 2005 and sold the naming rights to the Taiwanese electronics group BenQ , whose cell phone subsidiary BenQ Mobile was liquidated in early 2007 .

When the S65 was first delivered, it had a software bug that played the switch-off melody so loudly when a call was interrupted due to an empty battery that Siemens warned: "In extreme cases, the volume could damage your hearing." Many German mobile phone providers temporarily interrupted sales of the device due to this problem. which was eventually fixed by software updates.

The S65 was the first mobile phone in Germany with an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera . The integrated camera takes photos with a maximum of 1280 × 960 pixels through a fixed focus lens. As with cell phones of this class - at that time - the picture quality is only acceptable in bright light. In addition, video sequences with up to 176 × 144 pixels can be recorded. With older firmware versions, the length of these videos was limited to 30 seconds.

For data exchange, the S65 has a serial interface - via which a connection to the PC can be established using a data cable, optionally via USB or RS-232 -, infrared and Bluetooth interfaces, and data can also be sent via MMS or e-mail GPRS is possible.

Further models in the range

  • The Siemens S65v model was manufactured with Vodafone branding .
  • From March 2005 the Siemens SP65 model was available, in which no camera was installed.
