The 413 m high Signal d'Écouves is the highest point in Normandy and the second highest point of the Armorican massif . North of the Écouves anticline , the altitude varies between 330 m and 413 m. The greatest height is 413 m. It is located in the Orne department , north of Alençon . It consists of Armorican sandstone. It towers above the neighboring heights by a few meters and is forested. Views are limited to the nearby hills.
17 km southeast of the Signal d'Écouves is the Mont des Avaloirs in the Mayenne department , which at 416 m is the highest point of the Armorican massif. Because of the Greenwich meridian , the Signal d'Écouves is in the east of the world, while the Mont des Avaloirs is in the west of the world.
