The 416 m high Mont des Avaloirs is the highest peak of the Armorican massif . It is located in Pré-en-Pail , in the Mayenne department , in the Pays de la Loire region , and borders the Orne department . It forms the continuation of the Collines de Normandie (Norman Hills), which consist of heather and barren pastures.

A lookout tower built in 1994 offers the visitor a 360 ° view:

  • to the northwest: Monaye forest and the Pré-en-Pailer basin through which the Mayenne flows
  • in the northeast: the massif of the forest of Écouves, in particular butte Chaumont and Signal d'Écouves , the second highest point of the Armorican massif .
  • to the east: Mont Souprat, campagne d ' Alençon and Perseigne forest;
  • to the south: Alpes mancelles (Alps of le Mans ), and forest of Pail
  • to the west: Bocage de Javron.
