The Bevergern class is a type of workboat with icebreaking properties that is used by the federal waterways and shipping administration .

Prototypes

As prototypes for a new series of ice-breaking work ships, the Federal Institute for Hydraulic Engineering commissioned two new builds from MWB Motorenwerk Wilhelmshaven in May 2006:

• The Kingfisher ( construction number 110590), 22.50 m long, 6.50 m wide, 120 tons in weight, and driven by an MAN - marine diesel engine of the type D 2842 LE 403 to 529  kW is since 2009 in the fairway and Schifffahrtsamt Meppen in service.
• The Otter (construction number 110610), 16.80 m long, 4.50 m wide and 41 t in weight, has been in service with the Brandenburg Waterways and Shipping Office since 2010 .

Serial ships

Based on the Eisvogel prototype , five modified series ships were built at SET Schiffbau- u. Development company Tangermünde commissioned. They are driven by a MAN diesel engine of the type D 2842 LE 412, which acts on a 5-blade fixed propeller . With a drive power of 588 kW, a speed of 18.4  km / h and a bollard pull of 45  kN are achieved. Solid ice can be broken up to a thickness of 30 centimeters.

Further equipment includes a working deck with a folding crane , a towing gear , a push shoulder for boats , an echo sounder and an inland ECDIS . The kestrel also has a rear boom for a silt harrow .

The construction costs amount to around 3 million euros per ship , whereas the prototype Eisvogel only cost 1.44 million euros.
