Sigrid Abel-Struth

Sigrid Abel-Struth (born July 24, 1924 in Breitscheid (Hesse) , † February 2, 1987 in Bad Soden am Taunus ) was a German music teacher and writer.

Life

After studying at the Karlsruhe University of Music and the Universities of Heidelberg and Mainz , she received her doctorate in Mainz in 1949 with a thesis on "The Christmas Shepherd's Song" . From 1949 to 1956 she worked as an editor for music in the classroom . From 1959 to 1964 she was involved in setting up the youth music school in Frankfurt am Main and directed it. From 1960 to 1971 she worked as a lecturer for music education at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts , and from 1963 to 1970 she was head of music teacher training at the Pedagogical Institute in Jugenheim / Bergstrasse . In 1970 she completed her habilitation . From 1970 to 1973 she was full professor for music education and musicology at the University of Bielefeld, since 1973 professor and head of the institute for music education at Frankfurt University . From 1970 she published the series music education, research and teaching .

Since 1994 the Wissenschaftliche Sozietät Musikpädagogik e. V. awarded the Sigrid Abel Struth Prize for Scientific Music Education in order to honor "outstanding work in the field of scientific music education".
