Sigrid Leue

Sigrid Leue , née Schnabel (born March 12, 1934 in Ammendorf ; † August 16, 2010 in Magdeburg ) was a German canoeist and multiple GDR champion.

Life

She was born as a child of Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Schnabel and Erna Milda Mühle . She achieved her first major sporting success at the GDR youth championships in 1952 in a single kayak over 500 meters. She started for the Magdeburg district Fermersleben based canoe division of BSG Stahl South , later BSG Motor Southeast Magdeburg .

At the GDR championships in 1953, she managed to win over 3,000 meters in a single kayak. There were also successes outside of the championships. Together with R. Werner , she won first place in a two-person kayak over 500 meters at the Great Dresden Canoe Regatta on September 6, 1953 . In 1954 she was able to defend the GDR championship title over 3,000 meters and also won over 500 meters. She was runner-up in the four-man kayak . After a training camp in Berlin , she took part in an international canoe regatta in Romania . Another important and successful competition this year was the Germany Meeting of Youth and Students in Berlin, where she again won over 500 and 3,000 meters.

Sigrid Schnabel then married the successful canoeist Rolf Leue, who trained in the same club . The marriage resulted in two children, including the equally successful canoeist Eckhard Leue . The grandchildren Friederike Leue and Erik Leue are also successful in canoeing.

In 1955 she again won the GDR championship titles over 500 and 3,000 meters. In a four-person kayak she was runner-up over 500 meters. She also defended the championship title in 1956. In 1957 she succeeded in defending the title over the 3,000 meters and winning the four-man kayak over 500 meters. As a member of the GDR team, she started on the III in 1957. International Peace Regatta in Moscow .

In the next few years he won regattas outside of championships.

Leue was involved in the women's and environmental movement. She supported the EcoMujer project , which advocates women's and environmental issues in Cuba , and was a member of the Left Party . She died in 2010 after a long illness.
