Silbermühle (Leopoldstal)
The Silver Mill is a former water mill in the district Leopoldstal the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg in Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Silbermühle is located at the foot of the Velmerstot mountain near the village of Leopoldstal. The Silberbach there runs through the Silberbachtal , which was designed by nature. Between 1710 and 1711 silver was searched for in the Silberbachtal, but the yield at that time was very low. It turned out that the real wealth of the Silberbachtal was in the hydropower and not in the precious metals. A total of three grinding mills , four grinding mills and two fulling mills were located on the upper reaches of the Silberbach. In addition to the silver mill, the remains of a grinding mill, which is protected as a ground monument, and the listed Bollmühle are still preserved today.
The former packing house of the Silbermühle, in which silver ore was once washed out, was converted into a grinding mill by Johann Heinrich Steinmeier in 1710. It was later expanded to include an oil mill. In the following centuries the mill was leased to various millers. In 1895 the miller at that time received the concession to build an inn. The mill was gradually expanded and developed into a popular excursion destination. The mill operation continued until 1927 and was then discontinued. There is still a hotel and restaurant in the Silbermühle today.
On April 24, 1965, the nature park " Eggegebirge and southern Teutoburg Forest " was founded in the Silbermühle, which is supported by the city of Bielefeld and the districts of Gütersloh, Hochsauerland, Höxter, Lippe and Paderborn. At that time the nature park covered an area of approx. 600 km 2 , it was the eighth nature park in North Rhine-Westphalia and the 28th in what was then the Federal Republic of Germany.
