Silicium ( Latin silex 'pebble'; born July 25, 1991 in Bad Friedrichshall , real name Mario Calabrese ) is a German musician from Heilbronn . His music was assigned to the black scene , but has been moving increasingly in German rap and pop music since 2015 . He is also the owner of the record label Andersdenker and a producer of music videos under the name of Silicium Films .

Life

Silicon started in Neckarsulm in 2007 . From 2010 to 2011 he tried his hand at a permanent band on stage, but the formation failed in 2011 and silicon decided to keep the music project permanently with his artist name as a solo project and on stage with accompanying musicians. In 2009, silicon was under contract Darkmusix Records (formerly Biohazzard Records, sub-label of Danse Macabre ). Silicon has been under contract with the Future Fame label ( Suono , dB) since 2010 .

Through reviews and interviews in magazines, including Gothic , Zillo and Orkus (music magazine) , broadcasts on online radio stations and appearances on compilations such as the Extreme Samplers and Orkus Compilation 56 , he was able to increase his awareness. In 2008, silicon released his first album Between Aggression and Love as a music download. On July 25, 2009 he released his first CD Do I Not Fit Into Your Puzzle , which was sold throughout Germany.

At various concerts, including at the “Super Schwarzes Mannheim sucht den Schwarze Superstar” on July 3, 2010 or at the “Elekktroshokk Festival” on April 17, 2009, where he a. a. with wave: Erdball , Frozen Plasma and Das Ich played together, and at the crossover festival “Betonbruch Heilbronn” on May 23, 2010 Calabrese appeared as silicon. On February 27, 2010 he had his first concert abroad in Switzerland in Lucerne at the “Fleischgeil Party”. On September 22nd, 2010 he released his first music video for Schwarz Raum , which also appeared on the Zillo's Dark Visions DVD compilation . On March 17, 2011, the second music video followed for Go Your Way .

On October 1, 2011, the third album, Schwarz Raum , was released, whose song Mit Euch stayed in the German Electronic Webcharts for a month. It is also the only song whose chorus does not come from Calabrese, but from artist friend Marco Gazaneo. The album was positively received by critics.

The Schwarz Raum Tour started on February 18, 2012 with the label's own “Future Fame Festival” in Winterthur with a new live crew consisting of Yves Ramon Hackner (synthesizer / sampler) and Gaffa Ray (then guitarist). At the second “Future Fame Festival”, which took place on April 7, 2012, silicon was on stage for the first time with four people. The live show has been expanded to include a bass, which is played by the former guitarist Gaffa Ray. The guitar was taken over by Bastian B., who however gave it to David W. for personal reasons.

On June 1, 2012, Calabrese started a crowdfunding project on the Startnext platform for the album Ich bin Gothic, which was released on December 21 . Silicium played for the first time in his hometown Neckarsulm on September 1st, 2012 as part of the "Ganzhorn Festival". On November 19th the first music video of the same name for the album Ich bin Gothic was released. A week later, the second video, How many hours, followed .

Silicon's first radio presence was on February 13, 2013. The song Alles wird gut qualified as part of the “beFamous.fm voting” for the “Music Workout Program” of the bigFM Saarland radio station . On March 15, 2013 an interview took place in the BigFM Saarland headquarters in which the song "How many hours" was also presented.

As a result of his release, silicon released his first single on April 26th, The scene hates me (But that doesn't matter) in which he for the first time directly discloses his differences with the black scene. On June 12, 2013, the last music video from the album Ich Bin Gothic entitled At the End was released.

On February 6th, 2015, the fourth album Andersdenker was released, which was again successfully co-financed by crowdfunding. According to silicon, it should also be the last crowdfunding , which is why he called it final funding . A short film was also made for the CD's intro. Silicium is portrayed as a defendant who is said to have pleaded guilty to the scenes before the court for having mixed various musical styles. On June 18, before the album was released, the first music video release Nextlevel followed, and on October 11th the single Stranger , also with music video. Andersdenker is the first album that has strong German rap and pop elements and was able to stand out from the previous albums. Silicon was dubbed a wanderer between rap and gothic , among others, by the Heilbronner Voice newspaper . In the advertisement sheet Echo, Silicium described his differences with the black scene in more detail and titled himself as a scene-less because he does not want to assign himself to any musical genre. One month before the release, on January 13th, the third music video release was released for Moment . After the release, more music video clips followed, including Wake Up and the Freetrack Regen . In May 2015, silicon parted with its previous label Future Fame.

On January 31st, silicon founded his own record company Andersdenker and announced his first EP, Assemble .

Music genre

The music is shaped by many different influences. Silicon describes itself as a genre independent and, according to its own statements, wants to let its music develop freely and without limits. The texts are in German throughout. Due to the very present but not exclusive vocals , there is often talk of a German rap influence. The distorted voice, especially in the older releases, as well as sound and rhythmic structures include styles of aggrotech , future pop and trance . Almost all songs are accompanied by a piano. The use of acoustics and electric guitars can also be heard in isolated songs.
