Silko Günzel

Silko Günzel (born June 2, 1971 ) is a former German swimmer .

biography

After many youth championships in the GDR, Günzel was promoted in the swimming pool in Berlin. He started for the SC Dynamo Berlin and in 1987 was 4 x youth European champion in Rome and in the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay in 1987 and again in 1988 German champion in the GDR a . a. together with Steffen Zesner and Lars Hinneburg .

After the reunification he joined the SSF Bonn . For this club he won the German swimming championships in 1991, German champions over 100 m freestyle. He was third at the German Swimming Championships in 1990 in the 50 m freestyle and in 1991, from 1993 to 1995 four times second, where he joined the club via Cologne back to Berlin in the meantime.

He was runner-up in the men's sprint European championships in 1991 and third in both 1993 and 1994 over 50 m freestyle.

In the 4 × 50 m freestyle relay , he won the 1991 European Sprint Swimming Championships in Gelsenkirchen together with Nils Rudolph , Ingolf Rasch and Bengt Zikarsky in 1991 and was able to join the team in 1993 with Axel Hickmann , Torsten Spanneberg and Ingolf Rasch and in 1994 in the line-up with Ingolf Rasch, Torsten Spanneberg and Steffen Smollich, each took silver. Over 4 × 50 m individual medley he won bronze together with Patrick Hermanspann , Mark Warnecke and Dirk Vandenhirtz in 1993. At the sprint swimming championships in 1994 in Stavanger he won the European title again this season together with Jirka Letzin , Mark Warnecke and Dirk Vandenhirtz.

He is an entrepreneur in the healthcare market.
