Silvia Schmidt , née Stiebritz , (born March 25, 1954 in Klostermansfeld ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2013 .

Life

Silvia Schmidt attended a polytechnic high school (POS) and later completed a degree in social work , which she completed as a graduate social worker ( FH ). Most recently she headed the Special Education and Therapeutic Center in Wippra in Saxony-Anhalt.

Silvia Schmidt has two children and two grandchildren.

In May 1995 she joined the SPD. From 1995 to 2005 she was a member of the state party council of the SPD in Saxony-Anhalt and from 1997 to 2008 she was deputy chairwoman of the SPD district association Mansfelder Land . Since 2008 she has been an assessor in the merged district association Mansfeld-Südharz.

Silvia Schmidt has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1998 . Since 2002 she has been the deputy spokeswoman for the parliamentary group Local Politics and the Saxony-Anhalt regional group in the SPD parliamentary group . In the 16th legislative period, she was a full member of the Bundestag Committee for Labor and Social Affairs and a deputy member of the Bundestag Health Committee. In addition, she was a member of the Construction East working group and the East Regional Group. Schmidt had been the disability officer of the SPD parliamentary group since March 2006.

In 2007 she initiated the federal initiative at home instead of home . She is the chairwoman of the association of the same name. The initiative works for disabled people who do not want to live in a home, but want to live independently.

Silvia Schmidt moved into the Bundestag in 1998 as a directly elected member of the Eisleben - Sangerhausen - Hettstedt constituency and in 2002 and 2005 of the Mansfelder Land constituency . In the 2005 Bundestag election, she received 32.8% of the first votes .

Schmidt failed in the Bundestag election 2009 on September 27th in the Bundestag constituency of Mansfeld (constituency 74) in the fight for the direct mandate with 17.2% of the first votes. As number 3 on the state list of the SPD, it nevertheless moved into the Bundestag.

For health reasons, Schmidt did not run again for the 2013 federal election.
