Simbi Andezo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simbi Andezo , also known as Simbi, Simbe or Simba for short , is an important male loa (spiritual being) in African and Haitian voodoo .

meaning

He is considered the guardian spirit of wells and swamps and is generally associated with water . Rituals to worship Simbi Andezos usually take place near springs .

Aspects of worship

Simbi Andezo (Creole for "spirit of the two waters") is worshiped under two different aspects. In both aspects, it should appear as a long, slender line . Sugar cane liquor , rainwater collected during thunderstorms , green candles and ribbons and snake skins are considered suitable victims .

In the Rada cult

As a benevolent spirit ( Rada-Loa ; literally "spirit of light"), he is said to be responsible for fresh water , which he also inhabits and in whose vicinity he should always be. In the benevolent form, it should be tied to rivers and springs from which it cannot go far. Fair-skinned children in particular are said to run the risk of being kidnapped while fetching water and being used to work for Simbi underwater for a few years. For this they should be compensated by him with clairvoyance .

In the petro cult

In his destructive form (loa in the Nachon Petro ), he is the highest spiritual guardian of the coasts and is considered cruel if neglected by his followers. In this form he is considered a member of the Petro-Loa Ogoun's army and can go wherever he wishes. Other voodoo believers do not attribute him to Ogoun, but to the entourage of the equally destructive Loa Kalfu .

Another loa from the Simbi family

A total of 27 loa are worshiped under the name Simbi, including Simbi Anpaka, Simbi Makaya, Simbi Dlo and Simbi Ganga. What they all have in common is that their cult comes from the Kikongo language area in West Africa . The spirit being Gran Simba is considered to be the highest loa of the Simbi family.
