Simo Lipsanen (born September 13, 1995 in Lappeenranta ) is a Finnish athlete who specializes in the triple jump . In this discipline he is the holder of the Finnish national record.
Athletic career
Simo Lipsanen first took part in the Finnish U18 triple jump indoor championships in 2012, where he won the bronze medal. From 2014 onwards for the first time among the adults, where he won the silver medal at the national championships. In 2015 he took part in the European Team Championship for the first time with the Finnish team . In his competition he jumped the third best distance. In July he entered the U23 European Championships in Tallinn. With 16.10 m he qualified for the final, in which he ended up in seventh place.
In March 2017 he competed at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade. He managed to move into the final, in which he finished seventh with 16.84 m. In July he last competed at the U23 European Championships . With 16.42 m he made it into the final, in which he increased to 17.14 m, which in addition to a new national record meant the runner-up title. At the final highlight of the season, the World Championships in London, he failed to qualify and ended up in 17th place. In 2018 he made it into the final of the European Championships in Berlin, where he finished ninth with a width of 16.46 m.
In February 2019 he set a new national record with 16.98 m in the hall. He could not confirm this distance at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, where he narrowly failed in the qualification and again took ninth place. In October he finished 23rd at the World Championships in Doha. Lipsanen has won more than ten national championship titles so far, both in the triple jump and in the long jump
