Simon Baumann (born February 26, 1976 in Friborg ) is a Swiss musician.

Drums

On the drums he works across scenes in different genres and with different artists. He has been part of Stephan Eicher's band since 2012 . He played on his album L'envolée and on the tour of the same name through France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. In 2014 he performed with Stephan Eicher at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Stravinsky Hall.

For several years he was part of the electronic trio “One Shot Orchestra”, together with Jacob Suske and Fabian Kalker.

Simon Baumann also plays in the Metric Rotations and Drum Phase series for the Swiss musician Don Li , together with Björn Meyer , Simon Ho , Rico Baumann and Arno Troxler. The focus of these series is reductive music with components from classical Indian music, jazz, minimal electronics or funk.

In the field of folk and Americana music he has been playing for the artist Hank Shizzoe since 2013 . He is part of his album productions for Songsmith as well as for This Place Belongs to the Birds and is part of the Hank Shizzoe Trio together with Tom Etter (Züri West). He also works with Kutti MC , Deetron feat. Fritz Kalkbrenner and others. As a drummer and percussionist, he (s) played at the Zurich Opera House , at the Bern Konzert Theater and for the Native Instruments company in Berlin, where he recorded the series "Abbey Road Drums".

Composition and production

As a composer and music producer, he is particularly active in electronic music .

With the DJ and producer Melvyn Buss he formed the electronica duo 'Mercury' from 2008 to 2013 and released several EPs and remixes. This includes the labels: Gomma , Modular Recordings , Kitsuné , Exploited and Defected . In 2012 Mercury released the EP Candlelight together with Robert Owens and performed together at the Electron Festival.

In 2014 he started his first solo project under the name "Baumon" and arranged and produced music for the American TV series Ray Donovan . The corresponding song, Sunny , was used in three versions for three scenes in the eponymous episode of Showtime Pictures (season 2, episode 8). This episode first aired in the United States on August 31, 2014. Since the song Sunny is part of the plot of this episode, actors Kerris Dorsey (Bridget Donovan) and Octavius ​​J. Johnson (Marvin Gaye Washington) took over the vocals.

Together with the Berlin band “Junior” he released the EP Don't Listen Much on Gomma Records and performed with the “Junior & Baumon Marching Band”. Together with the pianist Florian Favre he forms the improvisation duo "Baumon Favre Jukebox".
