Sir Simon Joseph Bridges (born October 12, 1976 in Auckland , New Zealand ), known publicly as Simon Bridges , is a New Zealand politician with the New Zealand National Party .

Life

Simon Joseph Bridges was born in Auckland on October 21, 1976 to Ngati Maniapoto . There he attended Rutherford High School and then studied law at the University of Auckland , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Law. Bridges initially worked as a lawyer with Kensington Swan and moved to Tauranga in 2001 to work as a prosecutor. From there he moved to the London School of Economics in London . He then completed his qualification at Oxford with a Bachelor of Civil Law .

In November 2008, Bridges ran for a seat in the New Zealand House of Representatives for the constituency of Tauranga and won. From October 2014 to May 2017, he held the position of Deputy Leader of the House and then took on the full role of Leader for five months . In February 2018 he then took over the leadership of his party and the opposition in parliament. A good two years later, in May 2020, he lost the management position to his competitor Todd Muller . Bridges then did not withdraw, but remained as a member of parliament.

Bridges married his wife Natalie , who was already a member of the National Party .
