Simon Charles Henry Rufus Isaacs, 4th Marquess of Reading (born May 18, 1942 ) is a British aristocrat, banker and philanthropist .

Lineage and Early Life

Simon Isaacs is the son of Michael Alfred Rufus Isaacs, 3rd Marquess of Reading (1916–1980) and Margot Irene Duke (1919–2015). His paternal grandfather was Gerald Rufus Isaacs, 2nd Marquess of Reading (1889-1960) and his great-grandfather Rufus Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading (1860-1935). After the death of his father, he became the 4th Marquess of Reading .

Career

From 1961 to 1964 Reading served as a lieutenant in the Queen's 1st Dragoons Guard . He then worked as a stockbroker from 1964 to 1974 and was a member of the London Stock Exchange from 1970 to 1974 . From 1975 to 1980 he was Marketing Director at Brahmco International. He worked for the fashion company Ralph Lauren Cosmetics from 1979 to 1983. He then worked for Abbey Lubbock and Abbey Sports and Events from 1984 to 1992 .

philanthropy

Reading was the chairman of the Land's End John o 'Groats Club from 1992 to 1996 . He then acted as director of the medical welfare facility of the Global Flying Hospitals from 1996 to 2000 . From 1990 to 2000 he held the position of Chairman in Cheltenham in Gloucestershire located Dean Close School held. Since 2004 he has been on the board of CURE International , a Christian non-profit organization based in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania , and since 2008 that of Mertens House in Saint Petersburg , Russia . He also served from 2002 to 2008 as a member of the Council of the in Jerusalem contained garden tomb . He is also a sponsor of the Nelson Recovery Trust and, since 1998, the Barnabas Fund , a non-denominational Christian aid organization.

In 2003 Reading criticized the decision of Alasdair Smith , Rector of the University of Sussex to sell the Swanborough Manor , which dates back to the 12th century and is located in Iford, East Sussex . This mansion had been donated to the university by his great-grandmother, Stella Isaacs, Marchioness of Reading (* 1894 - † 1971), in the hope that it would serve as the principal residence of the rector until 2021.

Private life

Reading is married to Victoria Melinda Dewar and has a son, Julian Michael Rufus Isaacs, Viscount Erleigh (* 1986), and a daughter, Lady Natasha Rufus Isaacs (* 1983), who is close friends with Prince William . Reading lives with his wife in historic Jaynes Court in the center of the village of Bisley, Gloucestershire . He is a member of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and has performed frequently at the Lawn Tennis Championships at Wimbledon. He is also a personal friend of the British heir to the throne Charles, Prince of Wales .
