Simon John Charles Le Bon (born October 27, 1958 in Bushey , England ) is a British singer. He became known as the singer of the Duran Duran group.

Career

Simon Le Bon joined Duran Duran in the spring of 1980 . He was studying English literature in Birmingham when his girlfriend at the time, Fiona Kemp, gave him the tip that a new band was playing in the music bar where she worked as a waitress, although there was still no suitable singer. In addition to his obvious visual merits (when he first met, he wore pink jeans with a black predator print and mirrored sunglasses), Le Bon's place as the band's lead singer was also helped by the fact that he brought along a book with self-written lyrics.

Le Bon insisted on finishing his studies first before finally turning to the band. In June 1980 Le Bon graduated. According to his own statement, he always wanted to be a pop singer : "Whereas some kids wanted to be train drivers, I always wanted to be a pop singer."

In addition to his work at Duran Duran, Le Bon regularly records solo pieces for samplers by musicians he is friends with and is co-owner of the successful SYN label based in Tokyo, which specializes in commercials.

Simon Le Bon is a big water sports fan and avid motorcyclist. He has had serious accidents both on water and on land. In August 1985, he took with his sailing crew during the Fastnet Race in part, in which his yacht Drum off the coast of Cornwall wrecked and the crew members in the last second of the Coast Guard were rescued from drowning. In early 1994, Le Bon suffered a serious motorcycle accident in which he suffered a hernia. Just a few weeks later, he was sitting next to his bandmate John Taylor in the car when he lost control of the vehicle while drunk and drove down an embankment. Both men were unharmed.

Simon Le Bon has been married to model Yasmin Parvaneh since December 27, 1985, with whom he has three children.

He is an avowed agnostic and wrote and spoke for Ariane Sherine in 2009 for an essay in The Atheist's Guide to Christmas , which served in support of the Atheist Bus Campaign .
