Simon Millerd

Simon Millerd (* 1987 in Saltspring Island ) is a Canadian jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ).

Live and act

Millerd, who comes from a musical family, learned the piano at the age of six; the trumpet was added at the age of eleven. In 2008 he moved to Montreal, where he attended McGill University ; he also studied with Chris McCann, Brad Turner , Dawn Hage and Jocelyn Couture. He played with Nomad , with whom he recorded several albums, in the Emma Frank Quintet, the Isis Giraldo Poetry Project , Chronicle Infinitas and Kalmunity . After meeting Pablo Held's trio in 2011 after a European tour with the European Jazz Orchestra , he recorded his first album under his own name with this trio (and guests) in 2016. He can also be heard on albums by Thanya Iyer, Matthew Wollen and Nadah El Shazly.

Millerd has already received the Astral Artist Prize (2012), the CBC Galaxy Rising Star Award , the Yamaha Kando Award and the US National Foundation for the Arts Silver Award .
