Simon Popp

Simon Popp (born August 1, 1990 in Aichach ) is a German drummer and composer.

Live and act

Popp started playing the drums at the age of nine . After graduating from high school, he studied jazz drums at the Munich University of Music and Theater and graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2015 and a Master of Music in 2017 . From 2007 to 2014 he was a member of the band Hello Gravity , with whom he released two albums and toured several times. Together with Martin Brugger , Paul Brändle , Matthias Lindermayr and Sebastian Wolfsgruber he founded the jazz quintet “Fazer”, which presented its debut album Mara (2018) at festivals such as Xjazz , Südtirol Jazzfestival and Bingen swingt .

Popp works as a sideman live and in the studio with different artists from different styles (including Hadern im Sternenhagel, Carlos Cipa , Power! Percussion, OOI, Mynth ). As a live drummer with Roosevelt since 2017, there have been international appearances and festival shows. He also wrote several pieces of music for theater, film and advertising. In 2016 he founded the drum school in Munich together with the drummer Flo König .

Prizes and awards

With the quintet Fazer he was a finalist in the Burghauser Jazz Young Talent Competition in 2017 ; in the same year he was awarded the music scholarship of the city of Munich with the band. He is a fellow of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Foundation.
