Xjazz ( spelling : XJAZZ ) is a cross-genre jazz festival that has been taking place in Berlin-Kreuzberg since 2014 . In addition to jazz, there are mainly electronic and classical concerts. Since then, the festival has been organized annually on the second weekend in May by XJAZZ gGmbH; The jazz trumpeter and pianist Sebastian Studnitzky is responsible for the program as artistic director.

The venues are mainly in Berlin-Kreuzberg between Kottbusser Tor and Schlesisches Tor .

history

In 2014 the festival was attended by almost 10,000 guests. “75 percent of the line-up are artists from the capital. That is probably unique at a festival of this size, ”writes the Berliner Zeitung .

The festival took place in the first year without funding, but was supported in 2015 with funds from the Hauptstadtkulturfonds. The partner country in 2014 was Iceland. The artists of the XJAZZ Festival included musicians such as Nightmares on Wax , Emilíana Torrini , Henrik Schwarz , Frank Wiedemann , Moritz von Oswald , Nils Petter Molvaer , Francesco Tristano , Christian Prommer , Julia Kadel , Olivia Trummer , ADHD , Rebecca Trescher and many more.

In 2015, Israel was a partner country. Buttering Trio , The Apples and Oren Lavie , among others, were represented from Israel . In addition, José James , Jacques Palminger & 440HZ Trio, Brandt Brauer Frick , Melt Trio + Jan Bang , Günter Sommer + Rabih Beaini , David August , Grandbrothers , Martin Kohlstedt , Gregor thresholdbach , Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra , Hailu Mergia , Wallis Bird , Louie Vega , Johanna Borchert and many more. In 2015, 13,000 guests were counted.

In the third year of 2016, Turkey was the partner country of Xjazz. 14,000 visitors were counted at a total of over 80 concerts.
