Frans Petter Eldh (* 1983 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish jazz bassist who initially worked mainly in Denmark . He has lived in Berlin since 2009.

Eldh grew up in a family of artists and initially listened to hip-hop music. He started playing the guitar at the age of 8 and switched to the double bass three years later , before turning to jazz at the age of 13 under the influence of Charlie Parker's music. He received his first musical training between 1999 and 2002 at the Uddevalla Conservatory. He continued his studies at Skurup's Jazz School from 2002 to 2004 before moving to Copenhagen, where he received his Masters at the Rytmisk Music Conservatory in 2009 .

Eldh has been working since the mid-2000s a. a. with Django Bates (on whose Charlie Parker tribute Conformation (2011) he participated), Marc Lohr , Philipp Gropper and in the formations Schneeweiss and Rosenrot and The World . In the field of jazz he was involved in 28 recording sessions between 2008 and 2018, according to Tom Lord . a. with Marius Neset , Fredrik Kronkvist , Magnus Hjorth and in Lucia Cadotsch's Speak Low . He has also recorded albums with People Are Machines and Exil . Since 2011 he has also played in the trio with Wanja Slavin and Christian Lillinger , and also in the Trio Medusa Beats (with Benoît Delbecq and Jonas Burgwinkel ). Since 2016 he has also been active in the trio with Kaja Draksler and Christian Lillinger. In 2019 he founded the KomaSaxo quintet with three saxophonists.

Prizes and awards

In 2006 Eldh won the Getxo International Jazz Prize in Spain with People Are Machines and in 2007 the Danish Ung Jazz Prize with Exil . In 2012 he received the New German Jazz Prize with Schneeweiss and Rosenrot .
