Ed Motta
Ed Motta (born August 17, 1971 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil ; actually Eduardo Motta ) is an Afro-Brazilian jazz , funk and soul as well as blues singer and songwriter , who borrows from rock music , pop music , soul, funk and Brazilian musical styles Mix designed.
He is the nephew of the famous Brazilian singer Tim Maia . He is now one of the big stars of Brazilian pop music.
Life
The boy grew up in a very musical household. He and friends from the neighborhood founded the group " Kabbalah " and thus made his first experiences with music. Later he switched to the lead singer of the group " Conexião Japeri ", where he had two top hits in Brazil in 1988: " Manuel " and " Vamos Dançar ". The group served the hard rock style. Since 1990 he has been active as a solo artist.
This was followed by a move to New York in the mid-1990s , where he lived for a year. His texts are mostly in Portuguese, but some are also written in English and a few in Spanish. In 1997 he received his first gold record in Brazil . In 2006 the album Aystelum was nominated for the Latino Grammy Award . His style is a mix of many musical styles, which he puts together into his own and idiosyncratic compositions: jazz, bossa nova , rock, pop, soul, blues, funk. Film scores and compositions for other artists were also created. A respective collaboration brought him together with musicians such as Bo Diddley and Roy Ayers , with whom he played in Central Park , New York. Songs like " 1978 ", " Smile " or " Simple Guy " were written in English . The album " Chapter 9 " was written entirely in English. So far, twelve albums have been created as a solo artist.
Performances have taken him to cities in the USA, Argentina ( Buenos Aires ), Japan, Paris and Rome . In 2015 he made a European tour, which also brought him to Germany. a. to Dortmund , Bremen , Hanover , Hamburg and the Jazz Club Minden .
The heavyweight and bearded Ed Motta has been married to the comic book writer Edna Lopes since 1990 and lives in Rio de Janeiro.
