Frank Wiedemann (* 1973 in Karlsruhe ) is a German musician and operator of the music label Innervisions and Bigamo Musik . He is a member of the Âme , A Critical Mass , Schwarzmann and Howling projects .

Life

Wiedemann began at the end of the 1980s as a musician with various rock and jazz bands, and later as a DJ in Karlsruhe. He also worked as a graphic artist.

At the end of the 1990s, the first pieces of electronic music were produced in-house. In November 2001, Tranespotting was released on Compost Records together with Stefan Lechner under the name Soul FC .

Since 2001 he has formed the duo Âme with Kristian Beyer . In 2002 her first publications appeared on Sonar Kollektiv . Together with Kristian Beyer and Dixon , he founded the music label Innervisions in 2006 . As Âme he released numerous singles, EPs and remixes - including Rej in 2005 and Howling (Âme Remix) in 2012.

In 2009 he toured for a year as A Critical Mass with Kristian Beyer, Henrik Schwarz and Dixon. Among other things, they set the film Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari as part of the Jetztmusik Festival (later performed at The Roundhouse in London as part of the Ron Arad's Curtain Call project ) and put together a genre-spanning compilation on BBE Records with The Grandfather Paradox . This collaboration resulted in the Schwarzmann project with Henrik Schwarz in 2011 . The music of the duo, which has so far only appeared live, is based on free improvisation with origins in the house and techno context. In the Amsterdam music club Trouw and at the XJazz Festival in Berlin 2016, a jam session lasting several hours was also invited to the “Schwarzmann Soirée” with many guest musicians (including Bugge Wesseltoft , Kahil El'Zabar , Ben Westbeech , Pat Thomas , Robert Owens).

In 2012 he founded the Australian musician and singer Ry X band Howling . After appearances at Sónar , Lowlands Festival , Pukkelpop and in Berlin's Panorama Bar , the album Sacred Ground was released in 2015 via Monkeytown Records and Ninjatune .

In 2013, together with Marcel Dettmann , he composed and produced music for the techno ballet “Masse” produced by Arte in Berghain with a choreography by Nadja Saidakowa and a stage design by the painter Norbert Bisky . The remixes later appeared on Ostgut Ton .

Since 2014 he has remixed a. a. Irish singer-songwriter I Have A Tribe with the piece Yellow Raincoats for Grönland Records and in 2016 the first solo maxi was released on Innervisions with Moorthon EP .

As a live musician, he mostly performed under the pseudonym Âme (Live) worldwide - in clubs like Robert Johnson or Berghain, but also at big raves like Melt! , Time Warp , Tomorrowland and Monegros. In surveys of the music magazine Groove or the online platform Resident Advisor , he landed several times among the top three places for the best live acts. His live performances involve a great deal of improvisation. Since 2018 he has also been part of Sebastian Muallert's Circle Of Live project, which u. a. has made a guest appearance at the Berliner Funkhaus .

Since 2015 he curated in collaboration with RY X music for the annual "Sacred Ground Festival" in the Uckermark .

In 2017 he founded the music label Bigamo Musik.

The film Symphony of Now premiered at the 2018 Berlinale , for which he composed and produced the soundtrack together with musicians from the Berlin electronics scene.

The music was based on the silent film classic Symphony of the Big City by Walter Ruttmann from 1927. Wiedemann invited musicians to his studio for each of the 5 acts. Together they wrote and played the music that later served the director Johannes Schaff as the soundtrack for his pictures for Berlin of 2017.

In September 2018 he performed at an innervision evening at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Matthew Herbert and Gudrun Gut joined him on stage as guests .
