Natalia Mateo (* 28. March 1983 in Warsaw as Natalia Kowalczyk ) is a Polish jazz singer . Her music alternates between jazz and singer-songwriter art.

life and career

Mateo grew up bilingual in Austria and Poland as the daughter of a professional classical singer . As a child she received piano and violin lessons. After studying humanities in Breslau and Berlin , she studied jazz singing in Osnabrück from 2011 to 2015 .

Mateo's debut album You was released in 2013. Her second album Heart of Darkness , named after the story by Joseph Conrad , was published by ACT in 2015 and received positive reviews in national media; for this she received the ECHO Jazz in the category Newcomer of the Year (national) . She sings half of the songs on her third album De Profundis , released by ACT in spring 2017, in Polish.

She lives and works in her adopted home Berlin .
