Pokey LaFarge (* 26. June 1983 as Drew Heissler in Bloomington , Illinois ) is an American roots music - singers and - songwriter .

Life

In 2009 he founded the group Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three, which consists of three musicians: Joey Glynn ( bass ), Adam Hoskins ( guitar ) and Ryan Koenig ( harmonica , washboard and snare ). The group is based in St. Louis , Missouri .

The repertoire consists of a creative mix of jazz , early ragtime for string instruments, country blues and western swing .

His nickname Pokey dates back to his youth. This is how his mother addressed him when he dawdled. He took the name LaFarge after the folk singer Peter La Farge .

Appearances

  • Pokey Lafarge played at the 2011 Newport Folk Festival . The group toured the US and Europe. She has given concerts in the Netherlands, Great Britain and Ireland. Then she returned to North America and performed in Canada as well.
  • Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three opened for The Raconteurs at the Ryman Auditorium in September 2011 .
