Tomasz Dąbrowski (* 1984 in Iława ) is a Polish jazz trumpeter (also known as "Balkan horn"). With his expressive playing, influenced by avant-garde, free jazz and Eastern European folklore, he is considered one of the most original Polish trumpeters and composers on the contemporary European jazz scene.

Live and act

From the 2000s Dąbrowski worked in the Danish and international jazz scene a. a. with Tyshawn Sorey , Kris Davis , Andrew Drury , Marilyn Mazur , Kresten Osgood , Jacob Anderskov , Fredrik Lundin , Kasper Tranberg , in the Copenhagen Art Ensemble, Lotte Anker , Andreas Lang , Mette Rasmussen , Simon Krabs and Kasper Tom Christiansen ; He is also a member of the musician cooperative and record label Barefoot Records . Under his own name he released the album Tom Trio (ILK Records) in 2012 ; The Tom Trio includes Nils Bo Davidsen (bass) and Anders Mogensen (drums). The album received positive reviews in Europe, the USA and Japan. The album Steps [For Tune] followed in 2013 , recorded in New York in a duo with Tyshawn Sorey, and in 2014 Vermilion Tree (For Tune), with Kris Davis and Andrew Drury. Dąbrowski now lives in Copenhagen.

Prizes and awards

Dąbrowski received a grant from the Polish Ministry of Culture in 2012; a year later he was named "Musician of the Year" by the Funen Jazz Musicians Association in Denmark . For the Tom Trio album he received the Fryderyk of the Polish Music Industry in the category “Debut of the Year in Jazz Music”.
