Francesco Tristano Schlimé (born September 16, 1981 ) is a Luxembourg pianist , composer and producer . He appears under the name of Francesco Tristano.

Life

Francesco Tristano began to play the piano at the age of five and gave his first concert with his own compositions at the age of thirteen. He attended the Juilliard School in New York, where he took Latin lessons with Bruce Brubaker and Jacob and completed the master class with Rosalyn Tureck . Later studies took him to the conservatories in Brussels , Riga , Paris and Luxembourg and in 2003 at the Catalan Music Academy in Barcelona .

He made his debut in 2000 with the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev , with whom he recorded Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 5 and Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major . He later toured with the French National Orchestra Lille, the Orchester Philharmonique du Luxembourg and others.

In 2001 he founded the chamber ensemble "The New Bach Players", for which he transcribed Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons for piano and orchestra and conducted himself. In 2004 he won the International Pianist Prize for Contemporary Music in Orléans, France . In 2006 he founded the band "Aufgang", whose first album was released in 2009. In 2014 Tristano resigned from "Aufgang". Since then he has concentrated on collaborations with Bachar Mar-Khalifé (percussion & electronics) and Pascal Schumacher ( vibraphone , marimba , glockenspiel ), with whom he appears in a trio. Tristano was “ Artist in Residence ” of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra in the 2010/2011 season.

The musician has released numerous albums, including recordings of Bach's Goldberg Variations and the complete pianistic works of Luciano Berio . On his 2007 album Not for Piano , he presents his own versions of techno classics for piano solo using stylistic borrowings from classical , neo-classical and minimal music . For his album Idiosynkrasia he worked with Carl Craig, among others .

In 2016 he worked together with Derrick May , the light artist Mau Morgo and a design studio on a new stage and light show entitled p: anorig .

In May 2017 he signed a contract with Sony Music , for which his first project will be an album with Chilly Gonzales .

Francesco Tristano is married with three sons and lives in Barcelona.
