Matthias Lindermayr

Matthias Lindermayr (* 1987 in Munich ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ).

Live and act

Lindermayr, who comes from a family of musicians (his father is a pianist and his mother teaches early musical education), received classical piano lessons as a child; When he was twelve he learned to play the trumpet. As a teenager, he also played the electric guitar in rock bands . He studied jazz trumpet with Claus Reichstaller at the University of Music and Theater in Munich , and then began studying composition with Gregor Hübner . Tiger Okoshi proved to be an important mentor with whom he studied at Berklee College of Music in 2014/2015 . He continued his studies in 2016 at the Jazz Institute Berlin with John Hollenbeck and Gerard Presencer .

With his own quintet he released his debut album on enja in 2015 . He was also a member of Schein and leads a quartet with Matthieu Bordenave . He is also part of Monika Roscher's big band and can be heard on their albums. He also worked with Holger Scheidt and is involved in three tracks on Carlos Cipa's Retronyms album .

Prizes and awards

Lindermayr and his quartet won the Biberach Jazz Prize in 2012 ; In 2013 he received the Kurt Maas Jazz Award. In 2017 he was awarded the City of Burghausen's Soloist Prize at the Burghausen International Jazz Week . In 2018 he received the Bavarian Art Prize in the music and dance category .
