Azhar Kamal (born November 25, 1966 in Karachi , Pakistan ) is a guitarist , composer and music producer from Munich .

Career

The fascination with the guitar and music began at the age of 6. After taking private lessons with Peter Kleindienst (classical guitar), Karli Broszat (electric guitar), Stefan Ammer (classical harmony) and Matthias Weber (jazz harmony), Azhar began his career as a musician after graduating from the Faust-Gymnasium in Staufen. Azhar lived in London from 1987 to 1991 , where he worked as in house producer / arranger at Apollo Records and played with many artists ( Roachford , Womack & Womack , Steve Williamson etc.) in clubs such as Limelight, Borderline , Hippodrome etc. In 1994 Azhar was A&R Manager at EMI / Electrola and in 1996 at Marlboro Music Product Manager International.

In 2002 he released his first solo album Me Rio , which was released on Enja Records . In 2002/2003 he worked as a producer with Joachim Germany , whom he discovered and whose debut album Music for Women he also produced in 2003. The hit single Marie was also released from the album . Since 2004 Azhar has worked as a composer and guitarist on albums for Tom Novy , JCA, Jamiroquai ( remix ), Willy Astor , Zabine and others. His commercial oeuvre includes working on BMW Welt in 2007, for whose installations he contributed music and motorcycle sounds and worked closely with the group. Furthermore, the Massive Mozart CD was released in April 2008 by Sonoton . Azhar wrote the music for the play Fluchten 1-4 at the Münchner Kammerspiele until February 2008 and played and conducted the ensemble live in front of a sold out house. As a filmmaker, he worked as a composer for the ARD television film Meine Frau, Meine Freunde und Ich . He wrote orchestral arrangements for bands like Miles and Readymade . As a studio musician and live guitarist, he worked with Milva , Gitte Hænning , Pharao , Roberto Di Gioias Marsmobil , Gipsy Vagabonds , Aunt Jamima , Joachim Germany, Acoustic World Project , Carmen , Blue, Bed & Breakfast and Schweisser .

On September 16, 2010, Azhar Kamal's reinterpretation of Gustav Mahler's VIII Symphony was premiered under the title Magna Peccatrix in the Haus der Kunst in Munich. There were also three CD productions for Sonoton . Azhar produced an audiobook with CD and lithographs of rare Goethe erotica called Hosenknopf with the Berlin actor Oliver Korittke . In 2011 the band ESPEXP released a CD for Enja Records called Flora / Fauna , which reached number 1 on the Amazon Jazz Charts. He also played with this formation in the Carl Orff Hall in Munich. Azhar has been playing with Georg Ringsgwandl since 2011 and is a composer for commercial websites, e. B. Design Hotels . In August 2012 Azhar worked in a top-class ensemble under Wolfgang Lackerschmid on the Common Sense / Common Language project with Stéphane Belmondo , Samuel Dühsler and George Donchev .

In September 2013, Azhar Kamal arranged Bach's Cello Suite No. I for a Montblanc product presentation in Hong Kong. Since October 2013 Azhar has been active as a theater composer for the play Judgment , which premiered at the Munich Marstalltheater on April 10, 2014.

In June 2014 Azhar produced the trumpeter / composer Matthias Lindermayr's debut album , which was released on Enja Records in 2015. In November, Lisa Wahlandt's album Home for Christmas was released , on which Azhar had played guitar on several pieces and with which he was on tour in Bavaria / Austria. In 2016 Azhar released his album Folk Jazz Explosion on Enja / Yellowbird. In 2018 Azhar produced the follow-up album by Matthias Lindermayr New Born for Yellowbird Enja.
