Simon Rahm

Simon Rahm (born June 27, 1980 in Oberhausen ) is a German composer and sound designer for TV, film and video games, music producer and singer for the band FTANNG !. In 2007 he became known to a wider public under the stage name Dorian Deveraux as the singer of the band Jesus on Extasy .

Life

Simon Rahm was born on June 27, 1980 as the son of Heidi and Adolf Rahm in Oberhausen . He grew up in Bottrop-Kirchhellen , a village-like suburb in the Ruhr area . In 2008 he moved to Essen , where he still lives and works today. Rahm received piano lessons from the age of five. By his own admission, he was already playing pieces by contemporary film composers rather than the works of classical composers. He describes the purchase of his first synthesizer at the age of 14 as "the step into a bigger world".

In his free time, Simon Rahm plays mixed martial arts and tennis .

Musical career

At the age of 26, Simon Rahm founded the band Jesus on Extasy together with the guitarist and producer Stefan Richter under the pseudonyms Dorian Deveraux and Chai Deveraux , in which Rahm was mainly active as a singer and songwriter. The band quickly achieved a high level of awareness , especially in the alternative and gothic scene. After an appearance at the Bochum Total Festival 2006, the record company Drakkar -Records became aware of the band that signed the band in the same year. With Simon Rahm as singer, Jesus On Extasy released three albums: "Holy Beauty" (2007), "Beloved Enemy" (2008), "No Gods" (2010). In December 2010, Rahm announced that he was leaving the band.

Just a month later, in January 2011, the website of the band FTANNG! online, which he runs together with Peter Vignold from Bochum. Since 2011 the band has released four singles and is working on the debut album "... and no one seemed to care ...". In 2013 Simon Rahm contributed the song "I'm over it" to the album "Isomorphine" by the former Jesus on Extasy keyboard player Leandra . In 2009 he was part of the live band of the Mülheim musician Andy Brings as a keyboard player for a short time and can also be seen in the video for the single "I'm sorry". However, Rahm had to cancel the planned tour due to scheduling conflicts.

Since 2014 Simon Rahm has mainly worked as a composer and sound designer for audiovisual media . Since 2015 he has been teaching these specialist areas at the Mediadesign Hochschule in Düsseldorf in the game design and media design courses.

On May 31, 2017, Simon Rahm released his first instrumental album "CONQUEROR" on the Elbroar label, which is affiliated with Warner / Chappell . In November of the same year, Rahm announced the work on the follow-up album "DEFENDER". As a soloist on the cello he was able to win the renowned cellist Tina Guo from Los Angeles , who is known among other things through her work with Hans Zimmer . The recording sessions were partially broadcast live on Facebook. The album "DEFENDER" was released on December 15, 2018 on Elbroar.

Together with Peter Vignold, Simon Rahm runs the synthwave project "LA Streethawk", which musically refers to the electronic film soundtracks by John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream of the 80s. The debut EP "Something Better" was released on February 7, 2019 and includes guest appearances by the American musicians Wolfgang Parker and Chris Schleyer.
