Simon Straetker (born December 13,  1993  in  Löffingen ) is a German filmmaker , photographer and environmental activist .

His film project H2Ochschwarzwald received several awards. In January 2017, Simon Straetker was added to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in the European Art category.

Life

Simon Straetker grew up in Löffingen in the  Upper Black Forest . From 2004 to 2010 he attended the secondary school in Löffingen. After graduating from secondary school , he moved to the Donaueschingen business school in 2010 to do his Abitur there in 2013 . In 2008 he came across an article about the South African adventurer  Mike Horn  and his Young Explorers Program that year implied  . After he had applied and qualified, he was one of seven internationally selected young people who  were allowed to accompany Mike Horn on his second  Pangea expedition to New Zealand. Simon Straetker was 14 years old at the time.

Motivated by this experience, Straetker took part in  the British Council's Global Changemaker project in 2010  . In 2011 the Biodiversity Youth Congress followed (organized by the German Federal Environment Foundation and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN)), in which he took part in the panel discussion with Norbert Röttgen , among other things . In 2012, Straetker founded Pangea Project Deutschland  eV and in 2013 traveled as a participant to the Google Zeitgeist Young Minds event in London and to the Ashoka ChangemakerXChange Summit in Istanbul. In 2013, Simon Straetker graduated from high school and founded his own film production company. He toured u. a. Serbia , Romania and South Africa to produce short films.

In May 2014 he founded FairFilm Productions, a collective of young filmmakers, together with photographer David Lohmüller and Holger Weber . Together with FairFilm Productions he travels the world and produces short films.

Photography and film career

After the first encounters with professional photography and film during Mike Horn's expedition as well as the following press appearances and interviews, the foundation stone for Straetker's future work was laid.

In 2012 he attended the youth media workshop in the German Bundestag and in 2013 the Hubert Burda Media DLD conference. In the same year he set up his own company " Simon Straetker Productions " as a photographer and filmmaker. Under this label, he has produced a number of films about Young Explorer projects that were made in cooperation with Geberit and Mike Horn.

His most successful film was the H2Ochschwarzwald film project, supported by Minister Alexander Bonde and MdB Kerstin Andreae . For this film he received the Citizens' Prize of the German Nature Conservation Prize, awarded by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation . In 2013 he was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Youth Film Prize in the “Best Camera” category. Excerpts from the short film were shown across Germany for several months on the Stoerer info screens in 2013/2014.

Since 2014, Simon Straetker has been working on numerous short films together with the self-founded production company FairFilm Productions; he wanted to promote a rethink in this world.

In 2016 he produced a. a. Five short films and one feature film for the Hessen Ministry of the Environment about the Unesco World Heritage Site Old Beech Forests in Germany.

In 2017, Simon Straetker founded Black Forest Collective GmbH together with Janis Klinkenberg and Holger Weber. Furthermore, Straetker was in the list of Forbes 30
