Simone Forte (born January 20, 1996 in Rome ) is an Italian athlete who specializes in the triple jump .
Origin and life
Simone Forte comes from the Italian capital. He was enthusiastic about sports at an early age and trained swimming and gymnastics in his childhood. He also played football for Lazio Rome , of whose team he is a fan. At the age of 12 he switched to athletics. There he initially competed in the middle-distance runs, as his mother did in her youth. In 2012 he switched to the triple jump under coach Andrea Matarazzo.
Forte lives in his hometown Rome, where he studied economics after graduating from school . In his spare time he plays the piano.
Athletic career
In 2012 Forte competed for the first time in national championships in long jump and triple jump. While he could not land in front in the long jump, he took fourth place in the triple jump at the U18 championships. In spring 2013 he became the Italian U18 indoor triple jump champion. A few months later he also took part in the national adult championships for the first time. He was eleventh. In July he took part in the U18 World Championships in Donetsk. He jumped in the final with a personal best of 15.71 m at this point, with which he landed in fifth place. In 2014 Forte became the Italian indoor champion in the older age group U20. At the national indoor championships for adults, he was fourth. In July he failed at the U20 World Championships in the USA with 15.31 m in qualification.
In 2015, he jumped the 16-meter mark for the first time in June. In qualifying at the U20 European Championships in Eskilstuna, he stayed just under 16 meters, but made it to the final. In the final he jumped the seventh largest distance with 15.91 m. In 2016 he finished third at the Italian Indoor Championships. In the summer he finished fifth at the U23 Mediterranean Games in Tunis. He completely missed the indoor competition in spring 2017 due to an injury. In summer he was able to compete at the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz. He jumped the season best of 15.95 m in the finals and was eighth. In 2018, with a few exceptions, he jumped consistently over 16 meters throughout the season. First he was Italian U23 champion with a personal best of 16.73 m and was then able to win the silver medal in his second participation in the U23 Mediterranean Games, this time at home. In August he competed at the European Championships in Berlin and at his first international adult championships. With his best jump in the qualification on 16.35 m, he missed making it into the finals by just one place as sixth in his qualifying group. Overall, he ended up in 13th place. A month later he was able to win the silver medal at the Italian championships in Ancona. In February 2019 Forte became Italian indoor champion and won his first title at national championships with a new indoor record. A few weeks later he managed to get into the final at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, in which he was eighth.
