Simone Mayer

Simone Mayer (born May 18, 1920 in Metz , † October 6, 2006 in Strasbourg ; née Bloch ) was a French hematologist.

Life

Simone Mayer was Professor of Hematology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Strasbourg . From 1976 she headed the Alsatian center for blood transfusion in Strasbourg (CRTS, Center Régional de Transfusion Sanguine ).

After taking part in the work of Prof. Waitz and Prof. Jean Dausset ( Nobel Prize for Medicine ), she became the head of the center as Prof. Waitz's successor. A study carried out on lymphocytes in 1980–1981 made it possible to considerably reduce the risk of transfusion associated with AIDS in Alsace .

In 1951 she married Prof. Georges Mayer (1911–1978). She has two children, a son (* 1954) and a daughter (* 1955).
