Simone Raatz (born December 25, 1962 in Weimar ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and chemist. She was a member of the Saxon state parliament from 1999 to 2009 and a member of the Bundestag from 2013 to 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1981, Simone Raatz studied chemistry at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and graduated with a diploma . In 1986 she became a research assistant at the Research Institute for Processing in Freiberg and at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg . In 1992 she was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. In 2000, she completed her habilitation on the topic of interface structure and mass transfer in metal extraction . Raatz has been a private lecturer at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg since 2005 .

She is divorced and has a daughter. Her father Dieter Eckardt (1938–2018) was director of the Goethe National Museum in Weimar.

politics

Simone Raatz's political career began in 1989 when she joined the SDP or SPD. Since 1990 she has been deputy chairwoman of the Freiberg local association, since 2006 in the state board of the SPD Saxony and since 2008 deputy chairwoman of the subdistrict district association of central Saxony. From 2001 to 2006 she was a member of the Federal Party Council of the SPD.

In the state elections in 1999 and 2004, Raatz was elected to the state parliament via the state list of the SPD Saxony . She was there one of the Vice Presidents and member of the Committee "School and Sport" and the Committee on "science and academia, culture and media." She was also the university and transport policy spokeswoman for the SPD parliamentary group. In the state elections in 2009, Raatz no longer stood as an applicant for a state parliament mandate. At number 6 on the list, she narrowly missed entry into the Bundestag in the 2009 Bundestag election. This she achieved four years later in the 2013 federal election on list number 2 on the Saxon state list. From January 2014 Simone Raatz was Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment . She was also a full member of the Petitions Committee of the German Bundestag .

Simone Raatz has been a member of the Senate of the Deutsche Industrieforschungsgemeinschaft Konrad Zuse since March 2015 .
