Simone del Pollaiuolo
Simone del Pollaiuolo , called il Cronaca (born October 30, 1457 in Florence , † September 27, 1508 ibid), was an Italian architect of the Renaissance . He came from a famous family of artists in Florence. Like many others in his family, Cronaca spent a number of years, more precisely the period between 1475 and 1485, studying the ancient buildings of Rome . His collaboration or construction management has been documented for a number of Florentine buildings, but his involvement is only suspected in others. He has been the cathedral builder of Florence since around 1495.
Works
- His name is best known through the famous Florentine splendid palace Palazzo Strozzi . However, the building is not infrequently, but probably incorrectly, presented as a work by Benedetto da Maianos , and in some cases it is also attributed to Giuliano da Sangallo . There is no doubt, however, that Cronaca was in charge of the building from 1497, that he designed the imposing cornice of the palazzo and that he was responsible for the design of the courtyard.
- The Palazzo Horne in Florence was built according to his plans in 1489 .
- It is very likely that he designed the Palazzo Guadagni in Piazza Santo Spirito in Florence.
- His collaboration in the Florentine church of Santa Maria delle Carceri in Prato has been guaranteed for the vestibule area since 1492. Here he supported Giuliana da Sangallo, who had the main responsibility for building the church.
- Together with Antonio Sangallo the Elder , he built the Salone dei Cinquecento , the hall for the Council of Five Hundred, in the Palazzo Vecchio in 1495/96 at the instigation of the Dominican preacher Savonarola . Since 1503/1504 Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were each to produce a large wall painting for this representative hall . Neither of the two paintings was ever completed.
- Cronaca was also involved in the construction of one of the most famous Florentine churches, namely Santo Spirito . The planning of the sacristy with vestibule is attributed to him, which was added after the actual nave was built in the years 1497–1499.
- In 1504 he completed the Church of the Franciscan Order of San Salvatore al Monte in Florence.
