Samson hawk
Habicht is the name of a two-seater moped model from the VEB vehicle and hunting weapons factory "Simson" Suhl in Thuringia, the type designation is "SR4-4". It was the last model in the so-called bird series .
The so-called Star de luxe was presented in the autumn of 1971. However, only the export models were then referred to. The vehicles were produced from 1972 on the production lines of the Sperber "SR4-3". Around 77,200 units were produced up to the end of series production in 1975. Many components, assemblies and spare parts came from the modular system of the Vogel series and were also installed in other Suhl small motorcycles, such as the two-stroke engine with cooling fan, the seat, the handlebars, the entire vehicle electrics, the wheels and the brakes.
The fan-cooled 50 cm³ engine (type designation "M 54/11 KFL") had a kick starter and, like the "Sperber", had a foot-shifted four-speed gearbox. The chassis, the 9.5 liter tank (smaller tank filler neck), the hydraulic shock absorbers, the external ignition coil and the 25/25 W headlights were also taken over from the Sparrowhawk.
The maximum speed allowed for the hawk was 60 km / h, but most of them were significantly faster. In Germany, the Habicht can be driven as a small motorcycle with an insurance license plate (driving license class AM). This applies in accordance with the exceptions in the Unification Agreement and Driving License Ordinance. According to the law of the GDR, small motorcycles were limited to 60 km / h; in accordance with the transitional regulation, this right continues to apply to vehicles that were first put on the road by February 28, 1992.
It was always painted in olive green during the entire production period. The side panels, the handlebar cup and the tank were painted a light beige. The original price of the hawk was 1430 marks .
The production of the "Habicht", like that of the "Star", was discontinued in 1975 in favor of the S50 models. But it wasn't until 1980 that a four-speed model came back into the Simson program with the S51B1-4 .
