The MSA 50 Spatz is a small motorcycle from Simson with an automatic motor from HERCHEE ( Taiwan ). The model name Spatz is based on the earlier Simson Spatz , which was also single-seated.
concept
The sparrow was designed for the leisure sector. The wheelbase was 13 cm shorter than the conventional S53 models , and 12 "instead of 16" wheels were installed. The very compact dimensions and folding footrests made it easier to take them with you in mobile homes or stow them in the garage. A version with a folding handlebar was no longer implemented. The combination of a drive train swing arm with Variomatic, which was bought in by the Taiwanese high-volume manufacturer Her Chee / Adly with the look of a classic mokick, is to be assessed as unusual . The central spring strut, the long-stroke telescopic fork and a wide seat made for great driving comfort.
The vehicle was awarded the Thuringian Design Prize in 1999. The purchase price of the Spatz was set comparatively low at € 1,800 (2002). According to former leaflets he was also known as sparrow 25 called moped offered. However, it is not certain whether this version actually existed ex works. It is also not known whether a slightly different version of the Spatz was built in 1999 with an even lighter weight.
In the course of Simson's bankruptcy, the production of the Spatz also ended after only a few years. Presumably fewer than 300 of these vehicles were produced, most recently with the engine throttled to 45 km / h.
