Sin with Sebastian (born Sebastian Roth on September 20, 1971 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ) is a German musician , singer and songwriter . Sin with Sebastian was best known with the song Shut Up (And Sleep with Me) from 1995.

Band history

Sebastian Roth, who studied media design after graduating from high school and then lived in London, was given a day of studio time in 1992 by a friend in a professional recording studio. He used this time to do a mix of Shut Up (And Sleep with Me) .

First, Roth, who auditioned with the demo tape at various labels, received one rejection after the other. After three years he was finally offered a production contract by the Hamburg studio Boogie Park Productions. The song was revised a bit and became a hit across Europe. Shut Up (And Sleep with Me) reached number 4 in the charts in Germany. The song was a number one hit in Austria, Poland, Spain, Finland, Lithuania and Mexico. In the accompanying video, Sin with Sebastian caused a sensation with personalities and his androgynous demeanor. In the 1995 Otto election , the Bravo readers voted him fifth among the most popular singers of the year. The project achieved gold status in Germany and Austria and was nominated for the Echo music award in the category Best National Dance Act and in 1995 for an MTV Europe Music Award . The opera singer Donna Lynn Bowers was involved.

The follow-up single Golden Boy reached number 3 in the charts in Finland, but the album of the same name fell short of expectations. In 1997, he produced a duet with Marianne Rosenberg entitled He Belongs to Me (a mash-up 99 version of her German hit He belongs to me ), which was released as a third single in Mexico.

Roth has been working with the Hamburg guitarist Tom Steinbrecher since 2004 . Both released the single Fuck You (I Am in Love) in late 2007 . In June 2008, after a ten-year hiatus, the formation's second album was released in EP form called Punk Pop! . In 2010 he released a new music video for the single That's All? (I'm Not Satisfied) and an EP ( Punk POP! 2 ) and moved to Berlin.

Rosa von Praunheim and Oliver Sechting shot a short film portrait of the same name for RBB / arte about the artist , which premiered at the 46th Hof International Film Festival as part of the documentary project Rosas Welt 2012.

The band made an appearance on Die Hit-Giganten on the subject of one-hit-wonder .
